Living in cornavirusworld 115: Sunday....

7/19

Monkey Cup

Get my paper and go to Monkey Cup to sit and read awhile…love how the  owner engages with people, especially parens with children, as they pass by.

Grocery shopping at the market and then pick  up an iPhone charger cord at an African shop then home to catch last part of the West Park service.  Sadly Dan, who has been leading services, has had a surgery.

Dion takes all he’s learned from doing stand up and hosting open mic to lead a service. He’s invited Tony from Open Mic to do music. And Berik too. Dion talks about  his own life and through his humanity and vulnerability welcomes people into their own sharing . Fact is, in the future we are moving into, this is more and more what church will be. Lay led small groups of Christians gathered with or without a building to support and strengthen  one  another and build countercultural communities of worship service and witness.  We are building for the post corona world now.

I take medjool dates, stuff them with goat cheese. Dust with ground pistachios. And smoked paprika. And drizzle with honey. My contribution to a patio party.  All musicians. One couple was to be married in June, postponed until next year. The host couple has been legally married with the celebration put off until next year. We have  quiche and avocado salad and chips and guacamole and sangria and whiskey. And my dates. Most of our conversation is about the virus and making it day to day.. As per usual. I remember when we asked about other things. I talk to one friend about producing my next recording. This is my first time to be  with these friends in person in over four months. I had to fill out a questionnaire upon entering their building, even on way  to the patio. And masks, of course.

Later, I meet a friend for drinks and calamari and asparagus at the festive Italian restaurant up the street. It’s still very hot out, The sangria is cold. Another week has passed.
